Sociology Prof. Hagen Koo presents a dramatic history of the industrial working class in South Korea from the 1960’s to the present in his award-winning book Korean Workers: The Culture and Politics of Class Formation.

Sociology: Five Points of Focus on Hawaii, Asia & Pacific 12/19/03
Due to its location in the mid-pacific, the UHM Department of Sociology is able to focus on the diverse cultures found in Hawaii and on the cultures of Asia. High quality instruction for both the undergraduate and graduate level; service and research, particularly with an emphasis on East Asia and the Pacific: These are the primary goals the Department Sociology maintains in order to properly educate students about the field of sociology.

Spotlight on Sociology: Criminology 12/19/03
Assistant Professor of Sociology Katherine Irwin became interested in criminology because she felt that there is inequality in the nation’s criminal justice system. Irwin wanted to find out how to improve the system to make it more egalitarian.

Eating Disorders Studied at Psychology’s Center 12/19/03
The unique study of Eating Disorders has attracted students from around the nation to the Department of Psychology. Graduate students in Clinical Psychology complete at least a year of specialized training in the nature and treatment of eating disorders. They work as research assistants on various projects, the most recent a project on undergraduate’s attitudes about caloric decrease and longevity.
