Printing

You finally have a job that will go to a professional printer, what do you do now? Here are some tips that may benefit you.

  1. Get to know your local printers. Create a strong relationship with the sales people. They will teach you about the process of delivering your files properly for press. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

  2. Ask the print shops to see sample works. Look at the different papers and the quality of work.

  3. Know what types of applications they use and what they expect out of you. All printers don't have the most up to date applications that you may have, so make sure you ask.

  4. Make sure when submitting your files to press, you print out clearly what you are sending. Specify your size, color, paper type, bleeds, quantity and contact information.

  5. When saving your files to send to the printers, make sure you add everything you use for your layout (images, fonts, etc.).

*From experience, keep in mind that you pay for what you get. This is not in all cases, but know who you are printing with. A lot of times, the smaller printing companies will seem cheaper, but they don't have the imaging departments and you will have to do a lot of the work.
